Shredding

The shredding process reduces the size of plastic waste. As the material that comes out of the shredder is still fairly large, shredders are mainly used for processing bulky plastic refuse such as bumpers, pallets, purges, heavy bales, sprue offcuts and extrusion start-up. Raff Plastics’ new mobile shredding unit also enables large volumes of plastic scrap to be quickly and efficiently processed on-site.

Grinding

Grinding is the most common technique for processing scrap plastic. Raff Plastics’ waste grinders reduce smaller pieces of waste plastic such as shoe soles, crates, pots, shredded pallets and bumpers to whatever mesh size is required. Magnets and sensors are used to remove foreign objects such as iron and copper from the resulting regrind flakes. It is also important that the dust is removed from the regrind flakes. This is blown away to a separate waste installation, leaving the clean raw material behind.
